Heavy Metal Guitar was a form of Rock music that began in the late 1960’s. Bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath were pioneers in the Heavy metal sound. The Heavy Metal sound produced in the 1960’s was loud, distorted, and thick which portrayed perpetual motion. Almost like some sort of rhythmic motor or engine sound.
While the bands of the 1960’s were clearly influenced by Blues music, Heavy Metal guitarists such a s Deep Purple’s Richie Blackmore was clearly influenced by Classical music. Later in the 1970’s bands such as Judas Priests took Heavy Metal into a new direction, void of Blues or Classical influence. At the same time Motorhead, added “Punk” influences to their music which centered around speed. This “speed music” became popularly known as “Speed Metal”. The 1980’s saw a new type of heavy Metal emerge from LA called Glam Metal. Two famous bands fro this era was Motley Crue and Poison.
The Heavy Metal music continued to evolve into new strains which included Trash, Death, Black and Power metal.
